Tyler is one! Since the day of his birthday was pretty busy, we decided to have his cake on the 23rd. We had a race car cake since Ty loves cars. He started crying when we turned off the lights, but he loved the candle and really loved his cake.

This is the face I had hoped to get when we had his portraits taken yesterday, but no luck. Such a big boy!
On Tuesday there were presents. I know this is a terrible face, but I thought it was so funny.

Tyler is the king of bed head. He always has a new crazy 'do every time he get up from a nap.

In other news, we survived the blizzard of 2011. Sydney decided that she wanted to go play in the middle of the storm and Ben said she could. I told him that meant he could go with her. That meant that Zack and Tansy wanted to go too. We got everyone bundled even though I thought the idea was completely crazy since the wind was blowing the snow sideways and it was freezing outside. Here are the munchkins ready to go.

Tansy was smart and played with the snow right by the front door and away from the wind.
Everyone else went out in the snow. Don't they look like they're having fun?
Zack lasted about 45 seconds (literally) before he came in looking like this.
This was after the storm had passed. You can see that one driveway is almost completely clear with no shoveling while the other's isn't. We live on the unfortunate side that got the covered driveway. We also live on the south side so our exhaust for the downstairs heater got buried in snow and our downstairs heater wouldn't warm up. There were so many houses with the problem that it would have taken maintenance all day to get here. They explained where the exhaust was, and Ben got on a ladder and shoveled the snow off the roof as well.
Ben spent a good portion of Wednesday morning working on our driveway.
But how can we complain when closures for school and the base meant we had two unexpected days of extra family time. We had food storage so we didn't even worry about braving the crowds for groceries. Ben just picked up a couple of gallons of milk and we settled in comfortably. I'm grateful that our family was safe since I know there others who weren't. We are really blessed.

Happy Birthday, cute little Tyler! Wow, wasn't he just born? Fast year when I'm only "seeing" on your blog. I have a similar lover of cars in my 2-year-old David--love the cake! :)
